This partnership was set up to deliver the targets set in Local Area Agreement 2006-2009. Having successfully achieved the targets set around reducing worklessness and increasing business starts in Lancashire, the theme group is 'on target' to achieve the remaining targets around completion of increased advanced apprenticeships and sustained business starts, ahead of the deadline in December 2010, whilst also implementing delivery and action plans to meet the National Indicator set for LAA 2008-2011.
The Economic Development Theme Group recognises that the private sector drives the Lancashire economy. It has therefore identified two priorities: one to create the conditions for a prosperous Lancashire, the other to enable people to access opportunities for work, training and to start and run their own businesses.
Raising productivity, creating affordable homes and increasing skills and employability are the focus of the economic development theme indicators:
- NI 153: Reducing worklessness in the worst performing neighbourhoods
- NI 155: Increasing Affordable Homes
- NI 163: Increasing number of qualifications at level 2
- NI 165: Increasing number of qualifications at level 4
- NI 166: Increase in average earnings
- NI 171: Increase VAT registrations
- NI 152 (Local Indicator): Reduce worklessness
The group meets every six weeks and manages workshops and sub-groups as required. The group is chaired by Stephen Dean, Managing Director of Lancashire County Developments Ltd.
