Community Cohesion in Lancashire

• In 2001/02 the rate of racial violence in Lancashire was 0.5 per 1,000 population and the rate of racial damage was 0.3. 67% of racial violence and 78% of racial damage occurred in 4 districts.

• 6.5% of children in schools did not have English as a first language. In 3 wards the percentage was over 80%.

• 29% of Indian and 22% of Pakistani 14 year olds rated themselves as poor swimmers or unable to swim. Only 7% of white children did so.

• 81 wards in Lancashire were in the 25% most deprived nationally and 33 were in the 25% most affluent.
