Lancashire's Young People


  • In 2002 52% of school leavers achieved 5 GCSE's at grades A*- C in Lancashire. This was just above the England average. 2% achieved no GCSE's. This is well below the England average of 5.4%.

  • In October 2002 3,740 youths were unemployed across Lancashire. They accounted for 30% of all unemployed people in the County.

  • The rate of youth crime across Lancashire was 75 per 1,000 youths aged 10 - 17 yrs. There were 25 youth offenders per 1,000 youths 10 - 17 yrs.

  • Across Lancashire around 30% of children were living in poverty.
