What's Happening?

Picture of a roseThe Local Government Act 2000 asks all local authorities to prepare a long-term strategic vision for their area in partnership with other agencies and informed by the concerns and wishes of their citizens.

Such visions or 'Community Strategies' should plan for the social, economic and environmental well being of the local authority area, and are developed through multi-agency 'Local Strategic Partnerships'.

In Lancashire there are 12 District Councils, together with a County Council for the whole of Lancashire. Each district has its own Local Strategic Partnership, and the twelve LSPs are preparing Community Strategies. They are at different stages in the process.

The Lancashire Partnership, as its name implies, covers the whole of Lancashire and is developing a county level Community Strategy.
The Lancashire Partnership and Lancashire Community Strategy will deal with issues of strategic significance that span several districts if not the whole of the County.

The issues and priorities set out in the community strategies of district LSPs will, however, inform the issues and priorities of the Lancashire Community Strategy (among other things). Indeed, many of the key priorities in district Community Strategies require action at the Lancashire level.

Importantly, the views and aspirations of the people of Lancashire will shape the Lancashire Community Strategy, and your responses will help us to draft the long term vision for the future of Lancashire.

The draft Lancashire Community Strategy should be ready by January 2004, with a final version completed by summer 2004.
